The dinner that follows is a party traditionally hosted by the groom's parents, and planned by the groom's mother, but can be hosted by anyone. Today you may see couples include the cost in their overall wedding budget. Or both parents can host it together.

The rehearsal dinner guest list generally includes both families, members of the Bridal party with spouses and significant others and if there are any child attendants, their parents.. It is courteous to invite the Officiant and his/her spouse to the dinner. You could also invite the out-of-town guests, this way you don't leave them with nothing to do in a strange town the night before the wedding. 

The dinner gives the bride an excellent opportunity to distribute her attendants thank-you gifts. It's a chance for the wedding party to get to know each other better, and more importantly, it's a chance for the bride and groom to thank all the people who have helped them out with the wedding planning. Assorted toasts are usually part of the rehearsal dinner.
